Camden’s premier performance venue welcomes the renowned director and choreographer

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Camden Roundhouse continues to state its case as one of the capital's most inventive programming venues for experimental spectaculars and living classics on stage.

This 2013 kicked off with the much-loved and hugely lauded Fuerzabruta, back at the space since it opened the re-launched venue in 2006.

And now February 2013 welcomes theatre legend Robert Lepage with one of a quartet of conceptual plays inspired by a deck of cards as the starting point for building narratives on luck, risk, chance and power.

Running from 7th February until 2nd March, at 7pm show, Playing Cards 1: Spades is the first in this ambitious new series from the visionary, and its scale and range is nothing short of epic.

With war as the main theme, the piece will explore two desert cities at the time of the invasion of Iraq. Las Vegas, old Sin City, takes centre stage. A caricature of the Western World and its values, it delves into a world of illusions, escape and private battles with a heavy dose of sex, drugs, violence and politics.

Fascinated by the rules, skills, symbols, mythologies, signs and characters that can be represented by a deck of cards, this intellectual starting point nevertheless promises an explosion of drama on the Roundhouse stage.
