Take an unusual trip on the Thames as part of the museum’s anniversary celebrations.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Museum of London Docklands is celebrating its 10 th birthday in 2013 with a series of special events and exhibitions. The museum is located in the heart of Docklands in the shadow of Canary Wharf and a short walk from the Excel centre. Visitors to London can find a huge selection of hotels near Excel on the LondonTown.com website.

The museum was opened in 2003 with a view to celebrating London's deep relationship with the river. London has for centuries been a major trading port, something that has ensured the city has survived for so long and become so large and wealthy. It has also helped define its character, particularly as a city that has always welcomed different nationalities, and all of this can be seen at the Museum of London Docklands. The museum is based in a listed building by West India Quay that used to be a sugar warehouse and is surrounded by excellent restaurants that have fine views across Docklands.

On 22nd June the museum offers a rare chance to see a different side of London, with a special boat trip along the Thames that will look at the way writers have used the river to inspire their work. The trip is inspired by News From Nowhere , a science-fiction novel written by the great London thinker and designer William Morris. In Morris's book, he created a utopian vision of 22nd century London and the trip, which will be led by Dr Gregor Claude, will explore the broad history of the Thames as well as the utopian visions that the Thames has inspired. The museum is also holding other related anniversary events, including regular free film screenings, walks and talks, all of which are listed on LondonTown.com, London's most reliable guide to arts and entertainment events in London.
