WASHINGTON, DC, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Atlas Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce a special performance of living history by Ayanna Gregory, daughter of civil rights activist, Dick Gregory. Hailed as a “perfect alignment of social consciousness and entertainment” by the  Examiner.com, this one-woman show will take audiences on an intimate journey through the personal sacrifices of the Gregory family and the families of other freedom fighters.

Showing on the eve of the celebration of the  50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, Ayanna's poignant stories and captivating songs will transport viewers to the life of a little girl finding her true purpose amidst death threats, social change, and above all the love of her father. She said “My father reminded me that Martin (Luther King, Jr.) and Malcolm X never got the chance to hear their children talk about them, and It is so important to do this so people would know the kind of phenomenon that he really is. I want the world to really know Dick Gregory.” An intimate Q&A sessionwith the living legend, Dick Gregory and Ayanna Gregory, will follow the performance.

“Daughter of the Struggle” has been moving audiences since January 2011 and the special performance for this historic weekend will be presented by Politics Unusual, the premier Washington DC "edutainment" company specializing in artistic, socially conscious event production and digital storytelling.

About Ayanna Gregory
For this singer, dramatist, educator and activist, music and art are more than entertainment; they are her mission. While growing up as the daughter of celebrated Comedian and Human Rights Activist Dick Gregory, she was blessed with the opportunity to interact with such mega talents as Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. But the glamour of the entertainment world isn't what resonated most with her. Raised with a deep awareness and concern for Human Rights, Ayanna's musical roots are steeped in the struggle of the “Freedom Movement”. Her newest creation is the powerful One Woman Show, “Daughter of the Struggle”, which recreates Ayanna's beautiful and inspiring journey as the daughter of a freedom fighter. Learn more at  www.ayannagregory.com.
