-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The increase and the spread of microelectronic devices such as mobile phones, GPS units, MP3 Players have fast outpaced the development of electrical infrastructure in Africa. This is depriving millions of Africans the means of improving their lives. Current estimates are that there are at least 250 Million Cell Phone users in Africa who do not have access to electricity at home. It is estimated that this number will have increased to over 400 Million by 2015. These people currently walking many miles and pay on average, $1 to $5 (US) per month for the privilege of charging a mobile phone.

In addition the lack of adequate lighting is depriving millions of students the ability to read and study after sunset.

e-Volt. A power generator that converts heat directly into usable electricity.

The e-Volt is a compact electricity generator that converts heat, be it from burning candles or any alternative heat source, directly into usable electricity. It can be used indoors and outdoors and operates with a wide variety of heat sources. Contrasting with other energy harvesters that require sunny conditions or wind, this device works in any and every weather condition.

It is primarily developed for people who are deprived of electrical power sources at home, but would be equally at home with hikers, back-packers or campers. This device can power LED Emergency Lamps and is an excellent light source at night. The e-Volt can generate as much as 2 watt of power from a single lit candle. This is sufficient to power a 120 lumen LED Emergency reading lamp. (This is 10 times more light than is produced by a single candle).

By increasing the heat the unit can generate up to 5 watt and this is sufficient to charge most cell phones or portable devices. The unit provides safe charging and will not cause any damage to USB devices since the power output is regulated to specific standards. The charging cord that connects to the power regulator is made of fire proof silicone shielded wire and can withstand temperatures of up to 400 degrees C.

The device is small and compact and easily portable.

The e-Volt works by heating one side whilst maintaining a lower temperature on the other side. This temperature differential creates electrical power for as long as this temperature differential is maintained. There are no moving parts and the solid state design makes it reliable and robust for harshest conditions.
