World premiere of the musical version of the Bret Easton Ellis shocker

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Almeida Theatre's new artistic director Rupert Goold gets his tenure off to a powerful start with a musical version of Brett Easton Ellis' notoriously violent novel, American Psycho. Goold's former company, Headlong, team up with Act 4 Entertainment, composer/lyricist Duncan Sheik and writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, opening at the Almeida on 3 December.

It's an unsettling mix – serial killing and song – but the music serves to heighten the tension and exaggerate the emotional detachment of antihero Patrick Bateman, the high-flying Manhattanite who is also a psychopathic murderer.

A strong cast is headed up by ex-Doctor Who star Matt Smith stars as Bateman, directed by Goold himself, with set design is by Es Devlin.

The show runs until 25 January 2014. Tickets range from £10 to £45 and can be booked via the theatre's website, almeida.co.uk or by calling 020 7359 4404.
