LIFT brings global stories to London, reports LondonTown.com

LONDON, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) returns to London this year to celebrate the experiences of the multinational individuals and communities who live and work in the capital. For the culturally curious, LIFT is one of the best London events to get involved in.

In 1981 LIFT launched their mission to bring the world's stories to London and this summer the city will once again be transformed into a stage. Set to be the most ambitious festival in LIFT's history, the five-week London event will bring together 43,000 audience members in venues across the city. From shows in warehouses and railway arches to exhibitions in abandoned shops and disused baths, the festival will transform the way we see London. There are dozens of events to choose from; for example, “Children of the Revolution” at the Peckham Library is an exploration of alternative ways for a new generation to seize power and “Next Day” at the Unicorn Theatre, which is performed in Dutch with English surtitles, gives an unexpected glimpse of a child's view of the adult world. Another show to look out for is “The year I was born”, which sees the children of Pinochet's Chile perform the life stories of their parents living in the grip of dictatorship. If you prefer something with a beat, Brazil's Bruno Beltrao and his Grupo de Runa reinvent hip-hop dance for the digital generation, while fans of multi-media productions will enjoy “She She Pop” which integrates film, personal testimony, big band covers and dance. With such a diverse range of shows and events to choose from, there is bound to be something to satisfy every culturally curious theatre goer.

The festival will run from the 2nd to the 29th of June 2014. Visit LondonTown.com for more information on the complete programme.
