London's fashionable 2014 includes Knitwear: Chanel To Westwood (19th September 2014 – 18th January 2015) at the Fashion And Textile Museum in Bermondsey, which looks at vintage fashion knitwear in the 20th century. This overlaps with the big autumn exhibition at the Design Museum, in nearby Shad Thames, will be Women Fashion Power (29th October 2014 – 26th April 2015), which will explore the politics of dressing for power and success. The exhibition will feature contemporary women working in politics, business, the creative arts and fashion from around the world, as well as looking back at influential women through history.
The Jewish Museum meanwhile will hold Designing the 20th Century: Life and Work of Abram Games (8th September 2014 – 4th January 2015), which looks at the work of one of the key figures in graphic design. Games, the child of Jewish immigrants, designed posters for London Transport and was official war poster artist during World War II. He also worked for the BBC and Olympic Games. And contemporary design will come under the gaze of the Museum of London, where they will be opening a new permanent gallery, Designing A Moment: The London 2012 Cauldron (from 25 July), dedicated to the construction of Thomas Heatherwick's copper Olympic cauldron, showing its design and construction through photographs, drawings and test pieces.
