More than 2,000 participants expected for military-style trail run

Auburn, NY, July 21, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Registration for the 2014 Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park is now open online at www.fingerlakesmudrun.com. On Saturday, September 27th, more than 2,000 participants are expected to test their limits as they trudge through muddy and challenging terrain and face jaw-dropping obstacles.

The annual event will again feature three extreme courses. One course is a 5K short course designed for those who're looking for a fun challenge, but aren't quite ready for the big time. The second course explores more than 750 acres of dense forest, sun-baked fields, and terrain that even scares the wildlife—all along a 14K course. The third course is a Mini Muddy that lets kids ages 6-12 get completely covered in mud, just like the rest of the family.

Mud run obstacle racing—which was rarely heard of even 5 years ago—has been growing in popularity because winning isn't the goal. Personal achievement and having a great experience with friends and family are. "The Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park attracts some hard core athletes and competitors, but it's mostly about the average Joe or Jill pushing their limits, having fun as part of a dynamic team, being part of a unique social interaction, and meeting tough challenges straight on," says Robb D Bonilla, director of the Finger Lakes Mud Run. "And don't forget, they're finally allowed to play in the mud and enjoy themselves. What's more, it makes for some great 'selfies' and stories on Facebook, too!"
There's also the appeal of adventure and escapism. Today's stress-filled lifestyle is full of a lot of "do this" and "do that," "stay away from this," etc. Even if it's only for a day, the Finger Lakes Mud Run lets people escape and see how hard they can push themselves and how dirty they can get while doing it. And at this year's Finger Lakes Mud Run, the more, the muddier™!

This year's military-style trail run will see the return of such popular obstacles as Hardwood's Revenge and the Everest Mud Pit, with four or five new obstacles making a first-time appearance. Those will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park remains a volunteer-organized event, with team leaders overseeing different aspects of the mud run—everything from obstacles and construction, to food and comfort, to volunteers and safety, to registration and beyond. 100% of the net proceeds extend the mission of Everest Park by offering a restful retreat for families of children who are experiencing life-altering health issues—the Brian Bisgrove Home of Courage.
