Fayetteville, NC, July 03, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Attorney Zshakira Carthens is an Iraq War Veteran who served six years in the United States Army prior to attending law school. While deployed to Iraq, she went out on daily missions transporting food, water, soldiers, prisoners, and providing security for convoys coming in and out of Iraq.

Attorney Carthens believes her job in the military is similar to her job today in the courtroom fighting for the visitation and custody rights. Much like her assignments on the battlefield, Zshakira believes a lawyer must be prepared, flexible, fearless and confident while understanding their responsibility is great and the consequences are greater.

Attorney Carthens completed her undergraduate studies at Campbell University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Government. She then went on to receive her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central School of Law. While in attending Law School, Zshakira was a member of the American Advocates for Justice Trial Team and won first place in the Willie Gary Closing Argument Oral Advocacy Competition held annually for third year law students.

A native of Raeford, North Carolina, Zshakira Carthens is the eldest of three siblings. "Family is the most precious asset and the reason we wake up in the morning", says Carthens. She also knows firsthand that family can be the reason we cannot sleep at night. As a fayetteville child custody lawyer, Attorney Carthens defends the rights of military families experiencing the grief of brokenness due to separation or divorce.

As a matter of fact, she has created a short video that explains a "5 Step Approach to Asserting Your Visitation Rights." Visit her law firm's website to view it for yourself at http://www.CarthensLawFirm.com.

Since early childhood, Ms. Carthens recalls many nostalgic moments from her youth of pleading the cause for others and loving it. One of her mottos in life is "We are the product of our own choices." She chooses to view every set back as something that she could have done better or approached differently. "We all go through things in life but you have to wonder why some people able to thrive despite the challenges and terrible things that happen in their life while others get hung up in them and discouraged. I'm determined to take responsibility for my level of success and level of happiness. If I'm not happy or I'm not content with where I am, then I need to do something about it."

Because life can be so challenging and so overwhelming, she encourages others to seek balance in their endeavors and to recognize the value of time. The love and support of her parents and her faith in God is the driving force behind her success. She believes you have to have someone or somewhere you go when times are tough and you feel empty and need to be revived. For her, she turns to God and her family. "When I feel empty, I turn to God and he fills me back up and reminds me that he is in control."

Attorney Carthens recognizes that going through a divorce, fighting for custody, visitation or support, is one of the most difficult times in anyone's life. There are many considerations and the process can be overwhelming. The Carthens Law Firm is committed to providing the skill you need and the personal service you deserve.
