LONDON, September 11, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The way objects can tell stories will be the subject a new exhibition opening in London this autumn at one of London's most interesting and creative museums. Crafting Narrative will feature the work of 12 contemporary makers and design studios, each of whom uses objects as a means of storytelling. It will be held at Pitzhanger Manor Gallery in Ealing from 10th September to 19th October 2014. The Crafting Narrative exhibition highlights the work of designers and makers who explore the potential of objects to reflect on history, culture, society and technology. It will feature a combination of new and commissioned works, film, text and photography that show how objects can be used as powerful and compelling methods for telling a story. Among the works featured will be Imitation, Imitation by Zhenhan Hao, a series of improvised products produced with craftspeople in the Dafen and Jingdezhen villages in China that explores personal imagination and creativity in relation to social, political and economic implications of Chinese imitation culture.
Onkar Kular and Noam Toran will present I Cling to Virtue, a mixed-media archive of ghostly objects, narrative texts and videos that introduce the viewer to the Lövy-Singh clan, a fictional East London family that mixes the artist's own genealogies with those of affluent 20th-century families such as the Kennedys, the Magnificent Ambersons and the Rothschilds.
The Materiality of a Natural Disaster by Hilda Hellström consists of four slightly radioactive food vessels made of soil from a field belonging to rice farmer and last resident inside the Fukushima-Daiichi exclusion zone in Japan.
