Overland Park, KS, March 25, 2015 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Kansas City Urology Care is pleased to announce the addition of MRI Fusion technology as part of its comprehensive line of men's health services, procedures and solutions. This new technology will dramatically change the way prostate cancer is tested and managed for Kansas City-area men of all ages.

Approved by the FDA, this technology combines ultrasound with MRI of the prostate. The fusion of these images allows KC Urology Care providers to more accurately target biopsies for better patient outcomes. By overlaying real-time ultrasound images with areas of interest identified by the MRI, the urologist is better able to target the mass for biopsy, and ultimately, diagnose and be more precise in finding the more aggressive cancers.

Studies show that "30% more high-risk prostate cancers were diagnosed with targeted fusion-guided biopsy than with standard biopsy. In addition, 17% fewer low-risk cancers were diagnosed with the fusion-guided approach" (JAMA 2015; 313:390-7).

KC Urology Care is the first urological care provider in Kansas City to bring this technology to the region.

A targeted prostate biopsy using MRI Fusion technology is just one of the many safe procedures KC Urology is able to offer. With a comprehensive staff of 23 urologists, three radiation oncologists, a pathologist and five non-physician providers combined with state-of-the-art equipment and modern facilities gives KC Urology the ability to offer several minimally invasive treatments, from endoscopic procedures to microwave therapy to, of course, prostate cancer screening and diagnosing.
