München, Germany, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Foreigners who live and work in Germany need good German language skills. Those who wish to acquire German nationality have to show evidence of sufficient proficiency in the German language, for example with the Goethe-Institut's "Zertifikat Deutsch" or the B1 language certificate etc. Studiengemeinschaft Darmstadt offers two distance learning courses for German which are flexible in both time and location: "Deutsch als Fremdsprache A1/A2" is a beginners' course and available with English, Polish, Russian, Spanish or Turkish as the medium of instruction. The course Deutsch B1 - Prüfungstraining "Zertifikat Deutsch"/"telc Deutsch B1" is designed for advanced learners. Here SGD has now introduced Spanish as a medium of instruction in addition to German.

Handling phone calls, going shopping, attending doctor's appointments, finding friends, helping children with their homework and making visits to authorities - people who wish to live abroad have to cope with a wide range of day-to-situations. Good listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are a must. An SGD distance learning course is an ideal way to acquire these skills quickly and reliably in the German language. It is possible to start a course at any time, regardless of local language teaching facilities. Participants integrate their studies into their own personal routine, set their own learning speed and do not have to make allowances for other learners: so those planning to move to Germany or spend time there can complete the courses before leaving home or after they arrive in Germany.

The course "Deutsch als Fremdsprache A1/A2"
The beginners' course "Deutsch als Fremdsprache A1/A2" is designed for anyone who has no previous knowledge of German. It enables learners to acquire a solid vocabulary and understanding of grammar as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference. Participants learn to understand, speak, read and write in routine situations - meeting people and introducing yourself, talking on the phone, writing text messages, going to the doctor, shopping and looking for job, for example. The course lasts 9 months with 6 - 8 hours per week study time. On successful completion, SGD issues a certificate that can also be provided in English if required.

The course Deutsch B1 - Prüfungstraining "Zertifikat Deutsch"/"telc Deutsch B1"
This 9-month course is aimed at those who already have basic German skills at the A2 proficiency level and wish to build on this for the purpose of living or working in Germany on a long-term basis, for example. The course prepares learners for the Goethe-Institut's "Zertifikat Deutsch" examination or the "Deutsch B1" examination according to the European Framework of Reference. It enables participants to tackle everyday situations in Germany with confidence: talking to friends, colleagues and neighbors, handling formal written correspondence with authorities and writing a job application, for example. They also learn how to read newspapers. For this course there is a choice in the medium of instruction between German and Spanish.

Modern mixture of media with telephone training and virtual language lab
SGD has many years of experience in offering distance language-learning courses. Participants acquire vocabulary, grammar, writing and reading skills based on an efficient mixture of study media. This includes study booklets which are also available as e-books (PDF format) on the online campus waveLearn. Audio CDs and MP3 files are used for listening and speaking exercises. Distance teachers corrected the recorded speaking exercises and written tasks submitted, adding comments and tips as required. In addition to direct dialog with tutors and other learners by e-mail or in forums and chatrooms, the online campus waveLearn enables all written tasks and speaking exercises to be submitted to distance teachers online.
