For Central Florida seniors who continue to live in the comfort of their own homes or who have moved into nursing facilities and hospitals, even Florida winters bring new challenges and put our elderly at increased risk. Longwood-based Granny NANNIES, a home health care referral service, is hosting a blanket drive for Osceola, Orange and Seminole counties from now through December 4, 2015. This year’s goal is set at 150 lap blankets, throws and quilts, which will be dispersed to Hospice of the Comforter and Florida Living Nursing Center to provide seniors with added comfort and warmth.
Granny NANNIES is asking Central Florida’s citizens, organizations, businesses and community groups to help with this worthwhile cause. Both homemade and store-bought blankets are being accepted at Granny NANNIES headquarters: 1912 Boothe Circle, Suite 300, Longwood, FL 32750. There is a donation box in the lobby that is open during office hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
