8 Steps to Beat Lower Back Pain

Released on = May 24, 2006, 7:17 pm

Press Release Author = Elkin Natural Health Centre

Industry = Healthcare

Press Release Summary = When you\'re in agony from pain -- whether from an injury or
chronic pain -- finding relief from your suffering is often the only thing that
matters to you. Sometimes the pain can be so severe, that you can\'t even complete
your normal, day-to-day tasks. Fortunately, there ARE safe and natural alternatives
to beating lower back pain -- without the risks and dangerous side-effects of
pharmaceuticals, surgery, and other harmful practices.

Press Release Body = When you\'re in agony from back-pain, finding relief is often
the only thing that matters.

Unfortunately, medications typically only suppress the pain... but they don\'t
address the root problem. That\'s why your pain keeps coming back again and again.
Yet there ARE safe, natural options to beat lower-back pain -- without the risks and
dangerous side-effects.

Here are 8 steps to beating lower-back pain...

1. Admit that you have a problem. Pain is a symptom of underlying problems. How many
times have you said to yourself, \"Maybe it will just go away...\"?

2. Realize that it didn\'t just happen. You may have bent over, and that\'s when your
back went \"out\"... but usually pain is the last symptom to appear, and the first to
go away. Just because the pain just appeared, doesn\'t mean this is a brand-new
problem. Likewise when your pain is gone, it doesn\'t mean that the problem is
corrected. The cause of the pain may have existed for months or years.

3. Don\'t mask the symptoms. Medications, if they do cover up some of the pain, only
cause you to do more damage to an already-damaged area. Remember that all
medications have side-effects -- and some side-effects can be deadly.

4. Quit smoking. Many studies prove that smokers have a higher incidence of
back-pain. The discs of the spine provide cushioning between the bones, and allow
room for the nerves to exit the spine without being choked or pinched. Smokers\'
discs become thinner, so there\'s less space, and nerve interference results... which
can cause agonizing back-spasms and pain.

5. Lose Weight. No secret here. Because your body must work harder to carry around
those extra pounds, there\'s tremendous stress on the spinal vertebrae, discs and
nerves. A larger stomach also stresses your natural body posture, muscles, ligaments
and nerves.

6. Exercise. The more you move and keep your muscles in tone, the less likely you
are to experience ongoing pain. Cardiovascular exercise is very beneficial:
especially if it\'s \"low-impact\" like cycling, elliptical machines, or stair
climbers. Although running is great cardio exercise, it\'s high-impact and not
recommended for those with chronic back-pain.

7. Avoid surgery. There is never a quick fix. By the time you have back-pain, the
problem has already been present for some time. Studies show the success-rate of
lower-back surgery is pathetic. All of the patients I\'ve seen who underwent back
surgery now regret having it. Scar-tissue develops and complicates the problem,
causing permanent, irreparable damage.

8. See a Chiropractor. This suggestion should be #1. Get your spine and nervous
system checked BEFORE the symptoms develop. If you\'ve had back-pain in the past,
you\'re 5 times more likely to experience it again. The longer an underlying problem
exists, the harder it becomes for your Chiropractor to correct.
