Release Body = After over a year of meticulous planning, the ACE
Film Festival has quickly become one of the most anticipated
events on the industry calendar. In contrast to many other festivals,
ACE Fest strives to be accessible to the common
movie-goer. The intimidation and confusion of multiple venues, individual
screening tickets and faceless corporate hospitality has deterred
many from satisfying their curiosity for independent film. From
August 24-26, ACE Film Festival will take place
under one roof, offer its patrons amenities such as free refreshments,
professional massages, live music, games, area discounts, contests
and the power to come and go as they please with the simplicity
of all-access day passes for one low price.
"Our
goal when compiling this year's programming was to accommodate everyone
from the first-time film festival patron to the most refined film
critic. I can say with complete confidence that I am as proud of
this lineup as I would be if I had made each film all myself. We
are truly lucky to be in a position to provide a forum for these
independent works." Says Tom O'Malley, Programming
Director.
The
2007 programming schedule boasts 5 World Premieres, 1 U.S. Premiere,
2 East Coast Premieres and 7 New York Premiere titles. Standing
out in an already impressive program is the NYCentric documentary
A Broad Way, which was shot by over 400 filmmakers, each standing
on one corner of Broadway for one hour. Joining that category,
with a more controversial outlook on city life, is The City
by NYU professor Vladan Nikolic. Get in the holiday spirit
early with Stalking Santa, a mockumentary about the man
in the red suit, narrated by none other than William
Shatner. For those wishing to see the boundaries of independent
production and performance should take in Little Chenier,
a drama about Cajun culture in the bayous of Louisiana.
Celebrate the back-to-school season with History For Kids,
a dry comedy short about a teacher with a somewhat interesting educational
approach. Among the roster of filmmakers are several accomplished
individuals, award winning directors and producers, authors as well
as students. Full synopsis, reviews, clips and trailers are available
for each of the 28 films on the festival's website.
In
addition to 3 days of American films, ACE Fest
is bringing one of the most exciting independent filmmakers to the
stage. Caveh Zahedi was a favorite at the 2006
Sundance Film Festival with his premiere of I Am
A Sex Addict and will be speaking on opening night of the
event. Currently teaching at The Art Institute in San Fransisco,
Caveh is one of the most talked-about individuals in the industry.
His unique and candid outlook on life and relationships has given
success to several titles such as Waking Life, In The Bathtub
Of The World, I Don't Hate Las Vegas Anymore, A Little Stiff and
The World Is A Classroom.
1-Day
All Access passes are available for $40 and 3-Day All Access passes
for $100. Re-entry priviledges allows guests to come and go as they
please, sample the local restaurants, clubs and shopping destinations
in lower Manhattan.
