As thousands of passengers remain stranded at Britain's major airport, the focus of much anger has been directed at BAA, the company responsible for the running of Heathrow. The airport was essentially closed down on Sunday following extreme weather conditions, and many were forced to book hotels, with others camping out on the terminal floors.

Such chaos has been a familiar addition to the Winter season this year, with worse than normal weather bringing large parts of the country to a standstill. Across the UK, airports have experienced closures over the past few weeks, and have been forced to deal with a vast backlog of passengers hoping to reach their destination before Christmas.

In Europe, the situation is much the same, with key transport hubs such as the Frankfurt and Charles De Gaulle airports facing a daunting accumulation of passengers unable to travel. Between the two, some 110 million people have been affected by the delays and cancellations.

Deliveries throughout the continent have also been affected, with tens of thousands of shoppers and companies failing to receive their goods, a situation made worse by the substantial increase in online shopping and delivery orders this year. For people delivering to the continent however, there is an alternative.

Parcels Please have chosen to go land-based while the airports are shut. The parcel delivery service has avoided the flight disruption by operating on the ground. With access to an extensive range of depots across Europe, Parcels Please have maintained a slight advantage over other couriers.

Although there have been inevitable delays to parcel deliveries, a much larger problem has been averted by the non-reliance on flights throughout the continent. A Parcels Please spokesman said:

“We are doing everything possible to return to normal service, including working at weekends, however delays are still occurring. Deliveries to residential addresses are likely to be the most affected by the bad weather with many local roads inaccessible.”
