After a successful first year, the Wilco Round Island Relay is to take place again this year on 23rd July 2011 on the island of Efate. The race is a revamp of the popular Round Island Relay.

Teams of 10 are required to run a relay around the island, with distances varying from 12 to 16 kilometres. The terrain which runners will content with also varies, from the steep Klem’s Hill to the flatter areas around Eton. Each runner must complete one of the ten sections of the race unassisted.

There are five categories that teams can enter: premier male, premier female, mixed, social, and school under 15 years.

The course must be completed in less than 12 hours, and the winning team will be awarded prize money of 200,000Vt. Second place will receive 100,000Vt and the team which comes in third will get 50,000Vt.

Following a tragic accident during training for last year’s race, there will be a Perpetual Trophy presented in honour of a member of the eventual winning team who was hit by a vehicle and killed.

With a start time as early as 5am for the premier female groups, it is advisable for contestants to book a hotel in Port Vila, ideally close to Wilco car park.

For teams wishing to enter the relay, the cost is 40,000Vt per team including a bus, or if the team will be providing their own bus then the entry fee is 20,000Vt.
