DirectRooms.com reveals that a unique tour of Egypt will see participants embarking on a special journey to cross the country entirely by scooter.

The Cross Egypt Challenge is inviting scooter owners to step up for a nine day endurance ride that will stretch the length of Egypt and take in some of the country’s most historical sites.

Riders will be in the saddle for 1,700km from 14th to 22nd October 2011, starting by the Mediterranean in northern Egypt and working their way down to the south to Abu Simbel temple. The start actually begins at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and then it’s a four hour ride to Cairo and an overnight stop at a Cairo City Centre hotel. Early the next day the team then sets off past the pyramids and on to the famous Suez Canal.

The rest of the route takes in Neuwebaa, Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh as well as a ferry crossing to Hurghada. The next section is in the ancient city of Luxor where riders will be able to visit the huge collection of temples and cruise down past the sphinxes before stopping in front of Karnak temple.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The ride is attracting a cult following and a large group of riders are expected to take part. Any visitors planning to be in Cairo on 14th October when the riders will be in the city should just check first about hotel availability online.”
