The critically acclaimed stage version of the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, starring Olivier award-winner Michael Ball and Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton, transfers to the West End's Adelphi Theatre from 10th March 2012 after a sell-out run at the Chichester Festival Theatre last year.

Demand for tickets is expected to be high following glowing reviews – six national newspapers have given this production of Stephen Sondheim's 1979 musical, directed by Jonathan Kent, a five star rating – and for musical fans coming from outside of London the website LondonTown.com offers a simple way of booking accommodation in the city offering an extensive choice of London hotels, including many located conveniently close to the theatre.

The dark and disturbingly humorous Sweeney Todd will be taking to the stage at the Adelphi Theatre, just one mile from Todd's fictional Fleet Street barber shop. Set in London 's seedy back streets, the play tells the story of Benjamin Barker, aka Sweeney Todd, who has returned to the city after years of being wrongly imprisoned and, once released, is bent on vengeance to gain justice.

With the support of a pie-shop owner, Mrs Lovett – played by Vera Drake actress Imelda Staunton – and armed with a sharp cutthroat razor, the demon barber Sweeney Todd sets out on his gory mission to retaliate against the wrongs done to him and his family. Their witty duet, A Little Priest, is a particular highlight as the two try to outdo each other in rhyming song.

Chichester Festival Theatre has a well earned reputation as a producing theatre and Sweeney Todd is the latest in a succession of plays that have transferred to the West End which have included Enron, Love Story, Calendar Girls, Yes, Prime Minister and Singin' in the Rain which is currently playing at London 's Palace Theatre.
