PITTSBURGH, December 19, 2012, 3:06 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) has published a new brochure announcing the availability of SUNCLEAN(R) self-cleaning glass for commercial building applications, such as traditional windows and curtain walls as well as glazings that are sloped or difficult to reach in canopies, skylights, covered walkways and shading devices.
The six-page booklet illustrates how the proprietary titanium dioxide (TiO2) coating on SunClean glass, developed by PPG, causes it to become photocatalytic and hydrophilic after activation by sunlight.
Photocatalysis enables the coating to slowly decompose organic material, while hydrophilicity causes rainwater to sheet when it strikes the surface of the glass, enabling it to rinse away loosened organic material. SunClean glass also dries quickly to minimize spotting and streaking.
The brochure contains performance data for SunClean glass when it is used in combination with SOLARBAN(R) 70XL and Solarban 60 glasses for enhanced energy performance. SunClean glass also may be paired with or laminated to conventional clear glass in an insulating glass unit (IGU) or with tinted products from the Earth & Sky or OCEANS OF COLOR(R) glass collections by PPG.
Because it is made with a pyrolytic or “hard” coating, SunClean glass is durable and can be laminated, tempered or heat-strengthened to meet specific strength or safety glazing requirements. It is available in sizes up to 130 inches by 204 inches from the PPG network of glass fabricators, with more than 100 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
