-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This January sees the return of the Royal Air Force Photographer of the Year competition. Featuring images taken by service personnel, the exhibition gives the public an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at life in the RAF. The competition has been running at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon for 23 years.

Winning images include dramatic shots taken in the line of active service, as well as more personal photos taken at home. The shots will be displayed alongside the long-running Milestones of Flight exhibition, which explores the RAF experience from the inside, telling the story of our constantly-evolving armed forces, from the male-only institution it once was, to the cross-gender, multicultural service it is today. The images will be beamed onto glass panels located in the RAF Today Area of the museum.

The Royal Air Force Museum, also known as the National Museum of Aviation, is home to hundreds of thousands of objects related to aviation in Britain. Artefacts range from classic aircraft to lapel badges and span a hundred years of aviation history. One of the primary attractions is The Historic Hangars, formerly the Hendon Aerodrome, a vital component in the Second World War machine that now houses over 100 aircraft, many of them suspended from the ceiling.

Entry to the RAF Museum is free. The Royal Air Force Photographer of the Year Exhibition runs from January 12 th until April 30 th 2013, from 10am-6pm each day. Website LondonTown.com has announced details of discounted London hotel rooms close to the museum. Among the London hotel deals on offer, The Pillar Hotel on Brent Street, a half hour's walk from the museum, is giving an 11% discount on double rooms, bringing the cost of a night's stay down to just £133.
