David Bowie, Lichtenstein and Picasso inspire visitors to London this Easter

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- With temperatures expected to remain in the low single figures this Easter, anyone staying in one of the many hotels in London for the extended weekend break should bring winter warmers, or use LondonTown.com's guide to the many indoor activities that are taking place in the city during the Easter weekend.

On the London stage, Helen Mirren, James McAvoy and Kristin Scott Thomas, all vying for the top acting gongs at the recently announced nominations for the 2013 Olivier Awards, continue to appear in The Audience, Macbeth and Old Times, throughout the Easter weekend. And there's still time to see Rupert Everett, who gives what many critics have called a career-defining performance as Oscar Wilde in The Judas Kiss, before it closes on Saturday 6th April.

The Book of Mormon has been receiving rave reviews – but don't worry if you haven't managed to secure tickets, you can enter the ticket lottery where 21 tickets for each performance are sold on the day at the theatre for just £20 each. Form an orderly queue. There's not one but two hit Broadway musicals making the transfer to London's West End this spring. Once, which won eight prizes at the 2012 Tony Awards, continues to preview at the Phoenix Theatre until Monday 8th April, before its official opening date on 9th April.

For modern art lovers, the Lichtenstein retrospective at Tate Modern is a must-see exhibition and one that will appeal to children as well as adults with its bright colours and cartoon-ish image. Head to The Pop Room from Friday 29th March to help create a Lichtenstein inspired work. The Courtauld Gallery's ‘Becoming Picasso' exhibition, a small but intense exhibition focussing on the year the Spanish painter arrived in the French capital, is another highlight and includes seminal works from 1901, his breakthrough year.

‘David Bowie is' is the blockbuster exhibition of the year at the Victoria and Albert Museum where visitors don headsets and immerse themselves in his costumes, video footage and song scores. By contrast, the museum's Friday Late, on 29th March, celebrates the brilliance of the bicycle with themed installations, live music and BMX demonstrations.

Indoor family fun comes in the shape of 'This is London', an exhibition of Miroslav Sasek's beautiful illustrations on public display at Tower Bridge, for first time in over 50 years. Young children can get their first taste of a live ballet performance with the English National Ballet's ‘My First Cinderella'. And the Southbank Centre is staging ‘Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic', a live version of the popular CBBC TV show, ideal for children aged seven and above.

Easter Sunday temperatures are predicted to reach a balmy 12 degrees centigrade so there's still time, with luck, to venture outside and scamper around on one of the many Easter Egg Hunts, some of which are set within London's landmark houses and royal palaces. See LondonTown.com's Easter Egg Hunts feature for some inspirational ideas.

London's world famous department stores are also joining in the Easter fun. Harrods Chocolate Academy is running Easter workshops for children in the Godiva Café. Selfridges is hosting a shoe search as an alternative to the classic Easter egg hunt with a £250 voucher as the prize. Meanwhile, Fortnum and Mason is holding a Brownie Masterclass with award-winning chocolatier Paul A Young on Tuesday 2nd April at 6pm.
