May 14, 2013, 7:42 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Opened on 9th April 2013 with its first production Table, The Shed at the National Theatre now launches its second offering, Bullet Catch. The temporary performance space, which is a distinctive red wooden box designed by award-winning architects Haworth Tompkins, takes residency on London's South Bank while the National's Cottesloe is being refurbished. Written and performed by Rob Drummond, Bullet Catch is a dark one-man show that sees Drummond attempt to catch a bullet fired from an automatic pistol with his teeth. First conceived in 1613, Bullet Catch is regarded as one of the most dangerous illusions that a magician can attempt. In fact, it's rumoured that more that twelve magicians, assistants and audience members have been killed since its 17th century conception, and even the great Houdini was too afraid to add it to his repertoire. Now, direct from his sell-out run at Edinburgh's Fringe, Drummond is bringing the show to London, with the opening night on 21st May 2013.
With the initial idea of integrating magic and theatre, Drummond created this show in the hope that he could form a real relationship with audience members without the usual limitations. Starring as his alter-ego William Wonder, Drummond also incorporates mind reading and levitation into the show, making it a multi layered production that keeps the audience gripped throughout.
