The Isis Education Centre holds a number of events throughout August for children of all ages, but the best place to start is probably the Discovery Days on 7 and 14 August from 11am-3pm. This is a free drop-in day of events that helps introduce people to what happens at the Isis Education Centre. Children can help feed the birds, go pond-dipping in the Sunshine Pond, follow the Discovery Trail in search of newts or just take part in some colouring and crafting. The day is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by adults.
There are also more specific events taking place this summer that require advance booking at a small charge. On 8 and 15 August, a morning will be devoted to the Underwater Explorer, allowing children to get wet and wild with a net and a pond filled with interesting nymphs, newts and other pondlife. The centre will provide nets, trays, magnifying glasses and microscopes and help children identify what the discover lurking in the weeds and mud. After the sessions, they can take part in a newt trail around the centre's private gardens and make their own dragonfly. A similar event takes place on 6 August but lasts the whole day. In both cases, booking is essential and children most accompanied by grown-ups. From 12-16 August there is also a week-long programme of events for older children (age 12-16) at the education centre, that ends with the opportunity to stay overnight in the park, cooking on an outdoor pizza oven and exploring the park for bats late at night.
