Exhibition devoted to George Frederic Handel planned at museum located near King’s Cross

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- One of London's most fascinating small museums, the Foundling Museum near King's Cross, has revealed its first big exhibition for 2014. By George! Handel's Music For Royal Occasions will celebrate the music composed by German-born George Frederic Handel for the royal family on the 300th anniversary of the coronation of George I, the first monarch from the house of Hanover. The exhibition will open on 7th February and run until 18th May.

The Foundling Museum is located in the centre of London, close to dozens of London restaurants and hotels, as well as the railway stations at King's Cross and St Pancras. For a great selection of restaurants to visit in the area, visit LondonTown.com, London's most reliable website for tourist information in London.

The Foundling Museum was created in 2004 to tell the story of the Foundling Hospital, which was founded in 1714 as a home for abandoned children. The hospital was a success thanks to generosity of key patrons, including Handel and artists William Hogarth, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. Now the Foundling Museum will celebrate the relationship with Handel with this special exhibition, which features treasures from the Foundling Museum's Gerald Coke Handel Collection as well as loans from the British Library, National Portrait Gallery and British Museum and never before seen items from the archives of Westminster Abbey. No composer has been more closely associated with the British monarchy than Handel, whose Zadok the Priest   has been performed at every coronation since George II's in 1727, and Water Music   was performed in 2012 on the Thames for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
