Delray Beach, FL, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Former WBC Americas and NABO Heavyweight Champion Jameel "Big Time" McCline has announced his bid to represent Florida’s 20th Congressional District. A Democrat, McCline will face incumbent Rep. Alcee Hastings, who has served in Congress since 1993, in the August primary.

McCline will run a campaign that encourages all members of the community to join him in building upon the current local infrastructure. His mission is to achieve a more aggressively progressive District and especially focus on affordable housing, education and environmental resources.

McCline (born May 20, 1970 Harlem, NY) has earned his degree in the school of hard knocks. The departure from his childhood home into the foster care system has framed his adult philosophy of “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” At times those ways led to being on the wrong side of the law growing up on the streets of New York City. Despite having a golden opportunity to play basketball at Oneonta State University, his attendance was interrupted as he had to face the repercussions of his actions at age 18.

"I was lucky to have a second chance after prison. Most kids around me were not so fortunate. But I have to say I really tried to be better. Sometimes you just don’t know how to get there, you just know you have to figure out a way," said McCline.

McCline began his 18 year boxing career at age 25. Without amateur experience, his chances of success seemed improbable. He not only started fighting the best but he was beating the best all over the globe. He ranked in the top 10 throughout most of his career on the world stage.

"Boxing acquainted me with a life I never dreamed of as a kid growing up in foster homes. I never thought I could be in Russia one day and China the next, not to mention Switzerland, Germany, Mexico and Poland. It shed light on the shadows of my life. I had to believe in myself when I felt no one else did. I often reach out to youth struggling after they age out of the foster care system and I tell them not to confuse their disappointments with their future," says McCline.

McCline is currently the CEO of Big Time Holdings and is a sports consultant. His focus is on performance longevity, injury prevention and career sustainability for professional athletes. McCline has also commentated boxing events for EPIX Sports, PPV and ESPN.

"I have made it all, and lost it all. And now my definition of ‘all’ is entirely different than what it once was. I want to give people in District 20 the hope that they have a chance to progress and create their own opportunities through education, employment and empowerment. As my own obstacles have turned into stepping stones I would like to say thank you America," says McCline.

McCline currently lives in Delray Beach and a resident of Palm Beach County since 2004. For more information please visit or
