The ‘post-surveillance art’ of Suzanne Treister is explored at Maggs Bros in June

LONDON, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Maggs Bros bookshop and art gallery will be holding a new exhibition in June looking at the extraordinary work of artist Suzanne Treister. Post-Surveillance Art – presented by Maggs Counterculture - is a series of new works by Suzanne Treister that navigate the post-Snowden age, mocking and celebrating the world of wire-tapping and state-sanctioned reading of private emails. The exhibition takes place at Maggs Bros in Mayfair, in the heart of London. For more information, and to see listings of other London events in Mayfair this June, see LondonTown.com, London's best website for tourists.

The Post-Surveillance Art exhibition will be held at 50 Hays Mews, an old stable block at the rear of the bookshop, from 11th June to 24th June (10.30am-5pm, Mon-Fri). The term 'Post-Surveillance Art' was coined by Suzanne Treister on 9th January 2014. She has said, "What has altered for me post Snowden, is not an awareness and negotiation of a changed condition, but the knowledge that now almost everybody else knows something which was clear as day if you did a bit of research, and it's great to no longer be called a conspiracy theorist."

Treister was born and educated in London and her work has consistently explored similar themes in which she examines the existence of covert, unseen forces at work in the world, whether corporate, military or paranormal, utilising various media, including video, the internet, interactive technologies, photography, drawing and watercolour. Her exhibition at Maggs features a selection of brightly coloured posters that feature slogans commenting on the recent revelations regarding the state's use of spying apparatus against its own citizens.
