Innovative houses constructed in September for the London Design Festival.

LONDON, August 13, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- A series of dramatic new buildings are set to appear in the centre of London's iconic Trafalgar Square this September as part of the London Design Festival, which takes place at venues across the capital between 13th and 21st September. The London Design Festival showcases some of the most inventive ideas in design through a series of displays, talks and exhibitions that are located throughout the city. The Trafalgar Square project features four acclaimed designers who have created their own interpretation of home. Trafalgar Square is right in the centre of London, close to all the major attractions, shops, restaurants and best London hotels. For more information on the area, see LondonTown.com.

Designers involved in the Trafalgar Square project include Jasper Morrison, Patternity, Raw Edges and Studiolise. Their four ‘homes' will seem similar in construction from the outside though each will have its own individual exterior identity, hinting at the creative interiors. Jasper Morrison will create an amusing home based on a pigeon fancier's house – based on the pigeons that are the square's famous residents – with pigeon paraphernalia set among the minimal designs of Morrison's furniture. The small building will be complete with external perches and roosting boxes for the birds.

The home by Raw Edges will feature movable walls that can be used to open up different interior spaces - bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom - as and when they are needed. Studioilse has created a space which challenges visitors to respond to the questions of what home means to them. Visitors will hear a soundtrack of background noises such as a kettle boiling, doors slamming, cutlery rattling while the walls will show film projections of household objects and rituals which take place throughout the day in every home, spanning all cultures and social spectrums. Finally, Patternity will use pattern in engaging and inspiring ways. The interior of their house will be occupied with a trio of giant kaleidoscopes which will symbolically reflect the world around us through repeated pattern.
