Due to the need for an improved treatment system and new public spaces for a growing city, the facility was expanded completely underground, beneath four luxury hotels, a convention center and an amusement park. Press Release Body = Purafil ESD recently provided the Besos WWTP in Barcelona with nearly 100 Purafil Drum-Scrubber odor control systems, containing Purafil Odoroxidant™ and Odormix™ media, for a massive renovation project. The Besos WWTP,
which is located near Barcelona beaches and serves six towns and more than 2 million people, needed an improved treatment system and new public spaces for a growing city. This led to the unique idea of building a larger, improved treatment plant completely underground.

The new treatment plant will be integrated into the urban design of a recently recovered area of Barcelona. The 900,000 ft2, completely covered facility will now sit beneath four luxury hotels, a convention center and a public square containing
an amusement park. The location of these commercial facilities made the need for major odor control a crucial detail in the design of the facility.
