Homeowners who spoke to or emailed with Agee Woodworks routinely cited home improvement as their reason for purchasing a mantel. “Some homeowners were updating their current home’s interior and some had just moved into a new home and were making changes to match their décor,” says Carol Agee, Vice President of Agee
Woodworks.

The company also saw an increase in customers looking to renovate before they put their homes on the market; adding a fireplace mantel or surround was seen as a minor expense that could add to the attractiveness of a home’s interior. Carol Agee explains, “A fireplace mantel is an inexpensive way to spruce up a room, especially
if you are selling a vacant house. With the rooms empty, the fireplace is going to be more obvious and installing a mantel for the first time or replacing an outdated mantel can make the home more appealing.”

As winter approaches and consumers start planning for the holidays, Agee Woodworks naturally sees a rise in sales. Living rooms and dens are popular gathering places for family and friends; this time of year consumers take a critical eye to these rooms and decide to make improvements. “October and November are typically strong sales months for us,” Agee comments. “When people start thinking of Christmas and Santa Claus coming down the chimney, they want a place for the stockings to be hung. With our fast turnaround we have clients ordering custom fireplace mantels in early December and receiving the mantels in time to install them for the holidays.”

Agee anticipates that sales will continue to be strong throughout this winter.“We’re seeing a growing interest in fireplaces as a source of heat this winter,” states Agee. “We hope this trend translates into additional sales.”
