Skyscanner have recently spotted that flight searches at
either side of the school holiday period are up and that there are
bargains to be had for those travelling without children during these
times.
School holidays are a notoriously expensive time to travel. In the world of supply
and demand, airlines and accommodation suppliers push up their prices during the
holidays, forcing parents to cough up, or stay home. But for those not tied to the
national curriculum, there are great holiday deals and cheap flights to be found either side of the
vacation period according to flight search engine Skyscanner.
Skyscanner Travel Editor Sam Baldwin commented on the recent findings: “Due to the
extra demand during school holidays, flight and holiday prices always increase.
However, these findings are good news for those travelling without children as they
can make serious savings by choosing their time of travel carefully and taking
school holiday periods out of the equation.”
The locations where the biggest savings are to be had were mainly found to be medium
to long haul destinations. For example there were possible savings of up to £500
found on flights
to Orlando outside of the holiday period. Another saving that stood out on a
destination outside of Europe was over £150 on flights
to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.
Sam added:”It was interesting to see the mixture of mid to long haul destinations
that users were searching. Since the beginning of the recession destinations outside
of Europe have become increasingly popular and it seems that this is not going to
change despite the announcement last week that the recession is officially over.”
For those not wanting to travel so far afield there were also several European
destinations that could be reached for cheaper fares on either side of the holidays.
Savings of up to £200 can be found on flights
to Geneva when comparing pre and post holiday fares to prices during the school
holiday periods. The Mediterranean islands of Malta and Cyprus as well as several of
the Canary Islands were also found to be great options for the childless traveller
seeking a flight bargain.
Savings data based on return flights including all mandatory taxes, on Saturday to
Saturday, or Sunday to Sunday departure/return. Price information correct at the
time of writing but is subject to change.
