DirectRooms.com reveals that at the beginning of April people all over Thailand will be paying respect to the mighty kings of previous dynasties as part of ceremonies for Chakri Day.

On 6th April 2011 Thais will be gathering at temples and monuments around the country to honour their favourite monarchs and Koh Chang is no different as people gather for the special events taking place.

The royal family in Thailand are deeply respected by the people and almost every home is adorned with a picture of the current and past kings. Chakri Day is held to honour the nine kings of the Chakri era and is led by the dynasty’s current reigning king, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. On the day the king and other members of the royal family will take part in a ceremony at the royal chapel and the king will go to visit the statue of the first monarch on Memorial Bridge.

The era of the Chakri kings began with King Buddhayodfa in 1782 and he was heralded by the people for helping to defend Thailand against the invading armies of the Burmese. King Rama V was another significant king who helped to abolish slavery and prevent the country from being colonised by the British and French during his reign. Many shrines are still dedicated to the kings and visitors staying in hotels in Koh Chang are sure to see people laying flowers and offerings of food to the country’s most popular kings.
