Tourists and travellers from throughout Thailand and around the globe will be heading for the popular beach destination this May to celebrate Shree Buddha’s birthday. With the extra influx of people heading into the town, online hotel website advises early booking to secure good value accommodation.

The Shree Buddha birthday celebration is a chance for non-Buddhists to participate in a holy Buddhist festival, since Buddhism is a faith which happily permits non-followers to observe and enjoy festivals. Many Thais like to head south to Krabi’s beautiful resorts to enjoy the festival somewhere other than their local, usual temple of worship.

Like many Buddhist festivals, the Shree Buddha birthday event will see street parades and processions decked out with flowers, with Buddhist followers handing alms to monks who lead the parades.

Buddhist festivals and celebrations typically mean a day off work for all native Thais, so many people head away to make a short family holiday of any particular religious event. With that in mind, advises that the hotels in Krabi and local guesthouses could be busier than normal as people head into town in large numbers.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at, said: “Buddhism is a very inclusive religion and invites many tourists and travelers to view and participate in its festivals, meaning increased numbers in popular destinations like Krabi. So to be sure of getting hold of a good value place to stay, be smart and book online before you travel.”
