DirectRooms.com reveals that an all star line up of tennis’ greatest former players are due to play in a special tournament in Chengdu.

The Chengdu Open 2011 will see all time greats such as world number one Pete Sampras playing against title winners Mark Philippoussis and Carlos Moya. The Open is part of the ATP Champions Tour that sees ex tennis champions returning to the court again to relive some epic encounters.

One such encounter will be the games between Pete Sampras and Marat Safin who met each other several times during their careers. Safin just managed to get the upper hand on Sampras but Pete will be looking to reduce that deficit and also make up for missing out on being crowned champion having, being beaten by Greg Rusedski in last year’s final.

Other stars also on the tour are Thomas Enqvist, Younes El Aynaoui, Paradorn Srichapan and Wayne Ferreira. Collectively all the players taking part have racked up 154 ATP titles and more than $100 million in prize money.

Fans hoping to catch the games can see them at the Sichuan International Tennis Centre from 27th to 30th October 2011. All the games will be on hard court and as a special feature this year local amateur Chinese players are being invited to play with the champions as part of some special doubles matches.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “People looking for a Chengdu City Centre hotel may find it difficult as the return of the former greats brings more people to the city.”
