Improved Performance of Water Cooled Systems With Eqobrush Automatic Heat Exchanger Cleaning

Brushing systems commonly make use of a flow reversal valve, which is used to reverse the water flow to heat exchanger at regular interval without affecting water flow to the cooling tower. During the flow reversal cycle, SST/nylon cleaning brushes that are inserted in the heat exchanger travel up and down through the pipes removing all fouling buildup that has occurred in the tube since last cleaning cycle.

Earlier generations of the reversing valves had to deal with the flaw referred to as “cross-over”, which is the leaking of cold water from the cooling tower into hot water stream from the heat exchanger in the valve (induced by pressure difference over the heat exchanger). The cross-over rate in these valves can reach up to 2-3% which can be considered a reduction of the overall effectiveness of the cooling tower system.
WATCO’s newly designed zero cross-over valve has effectively addressed this issue via the Swing-Box® principle: using long-life Teflon seals that guarantee smooth operations throughout the life span of the equipment. The Eqobrush reversing valve shows an added pressure drop as low as 0.05 bar over the entire water cooling system which means energy losses via the system pump practically negligible.
