Former Principal Partner of Generation Media and PR Manager of E-One Entertainment

Celebrates a decade of teaching the next generation of music agents, managers and record label executives.

New York, NY, 2017-Nov-06 — /EPR Network/ — Former music publicist, agent and manager Tony Scafide is celebrating his 10th anniversary as a tenured professor teaching music industry studies at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. Scafide had been in the music industry for more than 18 years with experience working for companies such as Philips Media (then Polygram), E-One Entertainment (formerly KOCH International) and various small recording labels.

Scafide left KOCH to open his own boutique PR firm in 1998 entitled Generation Media and remained principal partner until 2007 when he begun his teaching career at SUNY. During his entrepreneurial period Scafide had worked with leading American composers such as Steven R. Gerber, Michael Dellaira, Tobias Picker, Michael Kaulkin, among others. Of all of Scafide’s clients his longest held client had been the conductor, recording artist and writer Robert Craft. Scafide remained a confidant of Robert Craft until his death in 2015.

In the past decade Scafide has used his industry experience and academic pathway to author academic papers on the music industry as well as curriculum and has given presentations of those papers in the United States and Europe. His workbook entitled A Music Industry Workbook was developed and designed for his personal use and style of teaching and has since been utilized at other universities offering music industry degree programs.

In January of 2018 Cognella Publishers will offer a new updated workbook which will be available for use beyond the personal teaching style of Mr. Scafide. The success of the book so far has been apparent to the publisher and their insistence on an expanded and less personalized text will open new music industry degree programs to its secrets and effectiveness.

“When I decided to move out of New York City and take a break for a year I didn’t think I was going to remain in the Catskill region of New York. The University here has been amazingly supportive of my work. The inside information and raw presentation of information was quickly appreciated by the students in the program. In my first year at SUNY I held the position of a lecturer, and now here I am ten years later a tenured professor. You never know where life is going to take you” said Scafide.

Classes that are on Scafide’s roster have varied over the past ten years. His core classes are those that are required for the music industry BA degree which include, Music and the Marketplace, Music Merchandising and Management, and History of Record Labels in Pop Culture.

To date Professor Tony Scafide has taught several thousand students and remains a favorite professor by students at SUNY. His unorthodox approach to teaching via a direct manner with realism about the current music industry and its ever changing climate is a refreshing take on learning for many of his students. Often his classes exceed the limit for available seats and he is asked by administration to move to a larger lecture hall.

In the coming weeks Professor Scafide and will be awarded a citation and plaque honoring his ten-year commitment to the university. Scafide holds a BM in music composition from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA) and a Master of Business Administration from the University at Albany (Albany, NY).
