2020 is set to be the biggest fundraising year to date for Peace and Love Academic Scholarship (PALAS, Inc.)

Atlanta, Georgia, 2020-Jan-09 — /EPR Network/ — With the beginning of a new decade, Peace and Love Academic Scholarship (PALAS, Inc.) has to date, awarded 691 scholarships totaling over $500,000 USD to students in Jamaica. This has made a huge impact in the lives of students that have graduated, some of whom have gone on to become Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Fine Arts Students, Nurses and Engineers.

PALAS – founded by Ruel ‘Rula’ Brown, stemmed from the brutal death of Vanessa Campbell, an 18-year old reggae artist from Portmore, Jamaica – was awarded for their philanthropic work by the People Profile Charity of the Year Award in June 2017.

Mr Brown has previously expressed his passion and desire to see the needs met for young people in Jamaica and that awarding scholarships is just a “tip of the iceberg”.

Chairman of the organization, Jamaican born, Patrick Campbell, an Attorney in Washington D.C was appointed in February 2017 and has encouraged scholarship awardees not to be afraid to chase their dreams or to embrace new opportunities.

For 2020, fundraising projects will be happening in various states, including but not limited to, Atlanta, New York, Florida, Massachusetts and a worldwide Telethon.

PALAS’ upcoming awards presentation is set for August 22, 2020 and will take place in Jamaica. The goal is to award 100 qualified students with scholarships.  Students will also receive funding, laptop computers, tablets, and backpacks.

Under the direction of 5-time PALAS recipient Dr Nicole Nation, The PALAS Alum project was formed, which enables past recipients the opportunity to give back to PALAS.

Although PALAS started as a scholarship program, it is doing so much more. For example, over the past few years Dr Nicole Nation has spear-headed a Health Fair where past PALAS recipients; doctors, nurses and volunteers, lend their time and expertise to provide medical services to some of the disadvantaged communities of Jamaica.

PALAS is a 501(c)(3) organisation and 100% of funds from sponsors, donors and volunteers go towards scholarships. Some of their past sponsors include Grace Kennedy, National Baking Company Foundation, Sagicor and Campbell’s Family Foundation, and they are seeking to bring more sponsors on board in 2020.

Looking ahead to PALAS’ 10th anniversary, the Directors, Chairman Patrick Campbell and Executive Director Rula Brown, along with sponsors and volunteers believe that exciting times are ahead.

Please donate online at www.PALAS1.org or mail check to PALAS, P.O. Box 5461, Alpharetta, GA 30023 to support the program. PALAS is an Atlanta-based non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization.
