October 23, 2012, 10:49 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- One of the British theatre's most loved living actors is back treading the boards on one of his most popular West End stages, in a Shakespeare play which continues to be in high mainstream demand.
Mark Rylance, whose performance in Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem has been cited as one of the sensations of the last 10 years' stage acting, returns to the Apollo Theatre – site of Jerusalem's original West End transfer – with Twelfth Night , from 2 nd November to 3 rd February 2013.
The production marks a return to the all-male Shakespeare which Rylance made so popular during his tenureship at the Globe Theatre on Bankside. Indeed, this year's production has just spent 3 weeks at the Globe, with Original Practices theatre company, where it has been drowned in good reviews.
Rylance plays Olivia, the swarthy and delicate noblewoman for whom the play's Duke Orsino is pining. Viola, disguised as a boy, becomes Olivia's page, and falls madly for Duke Orsino; whilst, in a case of mistaken identities, Olivia falls for the disguised Viola.
West End fans and theatre goers will want to make a weekend of this theatre occasion, and with that in mind, LondonTown.com has sourced some deals for those seeking a cheap London hotel to round off their trip.
