January 21, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Children's author Ed Gellock makes it through to the final round in "The Author's X-Factor" competition. The winner's book gets a chance to be made into a feature film. Ed Gellock of Texas became a finalist in the MARSocial Author of the Year Competition, arguably the largest competition of its kind in the world. Contestants submitted excerpts of their books and were then asked to promote the competition on social media, which included altruistically tweeting competitors' excerpts.Gellock submitted an excerpt from his children's book, "What's Your Name? Life as a Rock 'n' Roll Dog". His submission garnered him a finalist spot in this 1st ever Altruistic Contest. The winner and 20 runners-up are to be announced on Feb. 1.
The competition is being run by MARSocial and KeeranVaani Creations International Film Producers. The producers will choose the winning book and might adapt it into a movie.
People worldwide are competing and spreading the word about the competition. There have been more than 100,000 tweets about the competition. One book excerpt has been retweeted more than 11,000 times.
The organizers state on the MARSocial website that the competition's goal is to get the entrants as much exposure as possible using social media. The producers are hoping to raise money to finance their current project, the movie "Disturbed." The goal is to make "Disturbed" and then the adaptation of the winner from the MARSocial Author of the Year competition.
