During her special performance at the Hispanic Women's Conference on Friday September 16th, 2005 in Phoenix, AZ, Diana Mera paid tribute to the Queen of Salsa Celia Cruz by singing the hits Quimbara and Toromata. The journalist and Host of the Cristina Talk Show, Cristina Saralegui, was impressed with the strength of her
voice, talent and charisma. Cristina was the guest of honor at the conference and received the National Latina Excellence Award. While Diana’s performance, Cristina was dancing and clapping from her seat, there was a moment where she hold the singer’s hand and told her in Spanish “eres buenisima” (You are so good) and gave Diana her popular thumps up gesture. It was such an exiting presentation and full of energy, also is important to highlight that Mera’s performance broke the mold at the Hispanic Women's Conference; in the 20 years that they celebrate this event Diana becomes the first and only artist to sing at their celebration. During Cristina’s speech, she mentioned Diana Mera on three occasions and thanked the tribute paid to Celia
Cruz, who she said was her best friend. At the culmination of the event Cristina Saralegui, her husband Marcos Ávila, her publicist Gabriel Reyes and Miguel Ángel Pérez (make up artist of the Cristina’s show for 17 years and columnist for Cristina the magazine) walked next to the singer while Cristina complemented her work and her team at SGM Records.

SGM Records is proud of last Friday’s success and we know this marks a new beginning for the career of our artist and BMI composer Diana Mera. “When I saw Cristina after performing, I was wishing to get an opportunity to say hello and to my surprise she came to hug me, congratulate me, we talked about future plans, she also told me I
had the best manager and that we are working towards the right direction, it was amazing! I spend a lot of time with her and her crew until they left” Diana Mera commented in a very exiting fashion.

The only thing left to say is many thanks to Gerardo Higginson Chair of Public Relations of the Hispanic Women's Conference for his support and brilliant idea to bring Diana Mera to Phoenix, AZ for this sensational presentation.
