Local Company Offers Support to Children & Adults Affected by Hirschsprung's Disease & Other Serious Stomach disorders

Radcliff, KY -- September 13, 2005 --

Carolyn Rosado knows firsthand the heartbreak of dealing with Hirschsprung’s Disease. Rosado’s daughter, Kayla, has suffered with this condition all of her young life. Together this mother and daughter plan to bring awareness to HD, as it is commonly called, while offering support to those affected by this disease.

Hirschsprung's disease is a disease of the large intestine and can affect the small intestines as well. This is a serious condition which can cost a child their life, it occurs only once in every 5,000 births. Babies born with Hirschsprung's disease often have difficulties passing meconium, the dark sticky substance that is a newborn's first bowel movement. In some affected infants, symptoms of bowel obstruction begin shortly after birth, with abdominal distention and vomiting after
the first feedings. Other infants show a more insidious disease course, which may include constipation or diarrhea, anemia (low counts of red blood cells), and growth delay.

Complications for Hirschsprung's disease: The list of complications includes:

Constipation
Stool impaction
Intestinal infections
Anemia
Enterocolitis
