Press Release Body = Portland, OR: Youth for Human Rights International, Portland chapter is holding its first summit on Saturday, October 8, to address the hunger problem in Portland as a violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

According to Clark Balcom, Portland chapter director for Youth for Human Rights International, “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, created by the United Nations in 1948, presents numerous ideas that are basic human rights. Having a bed and food is considered a basic human right, and that we are all responsible for
ensuring such rights are available for everyone. Our summit is designed to educate Portlanders about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights mandate that food and a bed be ensured.”

The Youth for Human Rights International Summit will have Dr. Catherine Thomasson of Physicians for Social Responsibility and John Elizadle, director for the North East Emergency Food Program, speaking.

To attend the summit requires the donation of two cans of food which will be given to the Northeast Emergency Food Program. The summit will be Saturday, October 8, at the Church of Scientology of Portland, 709, SW Salmon, from 9 AM until noon in downtown Portland.
