Press Release Body = Lingo24 is delighted to announce the launch of a new automatic
translation tool - http://www.lingo24.com/contextrans.html . Contextrans helps
translators of all levels to understand different contexts in which words are used,
and how this can impact on their translation into foreign languages. The first
version is bow available, and works in both directions between Arabic and English.

When a translator types in a word or phrase in one language, Contextrans displays
the closest matches in its database to that word or phrase. S/he can then select
those phrases and see how they are used in the target language. The fact Contextrans
displays several results gives the translator a good chance of finding their word or
phrase used in a similar context to that of their own source language text.

Contextrans was developed from a program which uses statistical analysis of language
to predict the most likely translations in a given context. The tool may be used as
a translation aid to people who already know both languages, or as a dictionary
look-up to people with less advanced language skills. It is currently not a fully
automatic machine translation system, like Systran's Babelfish, but it is hoped
that, with more translated material, it may surpass competing translation tools.
Researchers at a leading British university are working on techniques to enable this
to happen.
