HolidayCity.com – Thousands of film fans, producers,
directors, writers and actors would be converging in New York from 21st
April to 2nd May 2010 for the Tribeca Film Festival. This years’
festival is expected to be more exciting with the screening of 85
feature-length films and 47 short films from various parts of the world
such as Singapore, Netherlands and New Zealand. The festival would also
be the venue for 21 world premieres. Fans can expect some star
sightings with well-known actors such as Sam Rockwell, Harry Dean
Stanton and David Thewlis, making their appearances alongside lesser
known talents. First time directors would also be rubbing shoulders
with the veterans which includes Joachim Back, who won an Oscar for his
work, ‘The New Tenants’. With such a big turnout expected, New York
hotels are certainly prepared for the influx of fans and film stars.

Founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the Tribeca
Film Festival made its inaugural debut to celebrate the positive energy and
creativity of the New Yorkers after the tragic attacks on the World Trade Centre.
Apart from its objective to assist in reviving the local economies, the organizers
also wanted to promote New York City as a major filmmaking center and provide
established and budding filmmakers with access to a broader and more international
exposure. The Tribeca Film Festival certainly differs from other world film festival
as it caters more to the people’s interests. Attendees can expect to see indie
features alongside short films, documentaries and feature-length films, as well as
enjoy themselves at concerts, comedy performances, street fair and even an outdoor‘drive-in’ movie screenings.
Lee Lai Huat, CEO of HolidayCity.com and a fan of movies himself, remarked, “There
is no better time to visit New York City than during the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s
like a part of the city is on a party mode throughout the two-week period. It’s a
fantastic opportunity to watch some of the best samples of quality filmmaking and
you never know, you might just be rubbing shoulders with a few Hollywood stars.” He
went further to say, “Although this year the organizers have introduced the Tribeca
Virtual Festival for those who cannot attend the screenings, my advice is to try and
come to New York to truly feel the spirit of the festival. Fans could take advantage
of the great rates offered by HolidayCity.com for New York City’s accommodation.”
