With more and more cities hosting Gay Pride celebrations and
Expedia launching its own gay travel website last week, the popularity
of gaycations has never been greater. Skyscanner highlights a few of
the lesser-known, up-and-coming gay destinations.
Pride Torbay, South Devon, England
Brighton may be the gay capital of the UK, but England’s coastline is also home to
Torbay. During Pride Torbay (June 11-13), stay at the brand new “first and only gay
resort in the U.K.”: Key West in Torquay. Check out the latest London flight deals, grab a rental car and you’re on your way.
Pride Northwest, Portland, OR
With the election of Sam Adams in 2008, Portland became the largest city in the U.S.
to have an openly gay mayor. This year’s Pride (June 19-20) features award-winning
78-year-old local drag queen Darcelle, as the Grand Marshal.
GLOSSI Pride Parade, Salt Spring Island, BC
Visit stunning Salt Spring Island, BC, during the GLOSSI (Gays & Lesbians of Salt
Spring Island) Pride Parade, September 09 -12. Find airfare deals to Vancouver and choose from
many gay-owned/operated hotels -including the recently renovated Salt Spring Inn.
Orgullo LGTB 2010, Mallorca, Spain
Instead of visiting the same-old gay scene in Barcelona, check out the happenings in
Mallorca during Orgullo LGBT Pride 2010, June 26. Take advantage of some of the
great, cheap flights to Europe this season and make your home-base the ‘first gay hotel on
Mallorca’; Hotel Rosamar in El Torreno.
Pride Month, Brisbane, Australia
Historically conservative, Brisbane has blossomed into a fantastically liberal and
friendly destination for the LGBT community. With many more places to go, and 300
days of sunshine, Fortitude Valley offers a lot of entertainment and socializing
opportunities for those LGBT travelers who are looking for a calmer alternative to
Sydney.
