Aggressive Expansion Planned For Appliance Repair Firm

Author: 0800 Repair
Industry: Consumer Services

A nationwide appliance repair company is about to embark on an “aggressive expansion plan” as it makes the most of the public’s growing make do and mend attitude, brought on by the recession.

Chester-le-Street-based 0800 Repair, which carries out work on range of domestic appliances from ovens to tumble driers, is looking to create around 150 franchise operations over the next five years. In addition, the business wants to employ a further 60 call centre staff over the next two years.

Demand for the company’s services has soared in recent months as consumers look to save money by having their old appliances repaired, rather than shelling out on new models. The firm is receiving scores of new contracts each day and its engineers will carry out anything from a cooker repair to a washing machine repair.

0800 Repair is currently taking on more than 250 domestic repairs every week, combined with around 2,500 jobs each week for retailers and insurance companies. The increased workload has led the business to project a turnover of £12m for 2009/10, rising to around £24m by 2014.

Paul Feek, managing director, said the new approach many people are taking towards their finances is proving to be a major factor in the company’s growth.

He said: “People are thinking twice about replacing their household appliances. A washing machine might cost £300 to buy new, but it could cost less than £80 to repair an old one.

“Added to that there were 13 million white goods sold in 2007, which are now coming to the end of their warranty periods. Anyone who wants to repair one of those items will need to contact an engineer and that is where much of our business comes from.”
