Destinations outside of the Eurozone suffer the hardest as low supply numbers increase prices

18 August 2010 The average price for a rental car in 2010 compared to 2009 has gone up by 30% says the number one car hire price comparison company.

The figures have been collated from data taken from bookings made in 2009 between March and May for August and the same periods in 2010 and the comparisons see many countries have put their prices up by a considerable amount. Greece car hire is the only place where figures have gone down and research was done on the following countries: UK , France , Croatia , Italy , Turkey , Portugal and Madeira , Greece , USA , Spain and Ireland.

Turkey has witnessed a huge increase in charges at 76% more in 2010 to 2009 and the average price for a rental car is now in excess of £40. The USA and Croatia also witnessed big rises and all three countries are all notably outside of the Eurozone.

Speaking out about the interesting findings is Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk: The drop in finding from banks to ensure companies can expand and replace their fleets has led to far fewer cars than what are needed and some of the most visited holiday areas in the world are being affected with places not using the Euro being the hardest hit.

One of the most expensive places to hire a car is the UK even though the prices in the country only went up by a small 8% as they were so high last year. Spain witnessed a 40% rise along with France that has put prices up by 37%.

Gareth continued: Consumers who book early will not only make massive savings but they also get to pick form a wide choice of cars so if you want to save money then booking in advance has been proven to save lots of money.

Portugal car hire is among some of the best value for money and the only country to report a decrease rather than a price increase is Greece . Down 7% on last year, Greece is likely to have seen a drop due to its relatively expensive prices last year.
