Half-Term Hire Bookings Jump 17%* Regardless of the Difficult Summer says Carrentals.co.uk

Leading car hire comparison website is pleased with the rise in bookings for the October half term

17 September 2010 – Leading car hire broker Carrentals.co.uk just reported a 17% growth in car hire for the October half term when compared to the same period last year; British travellers seem unruffled by recent events.

Assessed by analysing the bookings made for July and August 2009 and 2010, the results have revealed that there is a strong need for car hire across a variety of locations, including some very popular destinations like Nice, Faro and Pisa and even as far afield as Vancouver or Barbados.

Gareth Robinson, the Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, announced: “This summer has certainly been eventful for all in the travel industry. However, it is great to see that holidays are still important to British holidaymakers. Money may be tight for some people, but luckily there are some fantastic budget car hire deals out there, especially for those who shop around first and take a little extra time to compare all available prices.”

Car hire prices, unfortunately, have been unaffected by this recession. The findings from Carrentals.co.uk have revealed that average daily hire prices for all half term rentals has increased on average by 9% over the last 12 months. Car hire companies are also finding that they are unable to get any bank funding. Hence, fleet sizes have decreased of remained the same – resulting in prices being increased due to supply and demand issues.

“Travellers are wanting to hire a car for the coming half term break may find prices are now significantly higher than last year. They should look around the surrounding areas to get better deals - for example, a downtown location will be less expensive than an airport rental – the convenience reflects the price, but a little less convenience and the price can be reduced significantly,” Gareth, adds “For the best deals, it’s always important to make a reservation as far in advance as possible, as this will often have a dramatic effect on both the price and styles of vehicle available.”

A week’s car hire in Faro starts from £12** a day. Prices are from £13** a day for Crete, £16** a day in Rome or from only £10** a day with the car hire Malaga Airport provides.
