DirectRooms.com reports that Koh Samui in Thailand will be holding courses to teach people how to become a diving instructor in January.

The worldwide recognised PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) will be held at The Dive Academy on the island and will take participants through each of the steps and skills needed to become a fully qualified instructor.

The course is made up of two parts, the first being the PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course which is followed by the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course. The AI course develops the skills in people to be able to teach others about diving safely while covering the PADI standards and procedures.

After successfully completing the AI course candidates can then move on to the OWSI which goes into greater detail about presenting and contains a series of workshops. People that have passed both programs are then eligible to take the PADI Instructor Examination which is the final test before becoming an instructor.

People looking to attend the course will need to book Koh Samui hotels over 6th to 17th January 2011 when the program takes place.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Koh Samui is a popular destination for divers due to the excellent water conditions. The instructor course will draw a number of new visitors which is likely to increase demand for hotels in the area. People should go online to find the best rates and book places in advance.”
