DirectRooms.com reveals that Cambodia’s Siem Reap is preparing
a series of activities for Chinese New Year that will see the city come
alive with traditional dances and firework displays.
To mark the beginning of the year of the rabbit on 3rd February 2011, people in Siem
Reap and many cities throughout Cambodia will be hosting parties and getting
together with friends and family.
Siem Reap has a large population of Chinese residents and so the city will be the
scene of many boisterous celebrations with local dance troupes performing in
processions. Chinese dragons accompanied by crashing drums and the loud bang of
fireworks will fill the streets as people celebrate the New Year.
A number of stalls and restaurants will also be serving a traditional dish of ‘Samlor Chab Chhay’ which is cooked especially for the occasion. Visitors can try
the soup of grilled pork and duck as well as many Chinese favourites that will be
served throughout the event.
For visitors booked into Siem Reap hotels there is also the chance to head to one of the nearby temples around
the city where one of the rituals performed on the day sees people burning money as
an offering to the spirits.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Siem Reap will be filled
with people as relatives and friends gather together to celebrate and exchange
gifts. Many people will be booking into hotels in the area which pushes up demand
and so visitors will need to confirm their accommodation early over the time of the
event.”
